About Us
Leadership grounded in long-term relationships and respect for Indigenous governance
About the Founder
Aurora Psychology Group is led by Thomas Holmes, Registered Psychologist (#3973, College of Alberta Psychologists).
With over 15 years of experience in education, clinical psychology, and Indigenous mental health systems, Thomas has led multi-community mental health projects, developed trauma-informed youth programs, designed collaborative care protocols, and supported Nations in building integrated mental health frameworks across Alberta and NWT.
His work is grounded in long-term relationships, respect for Indigenous governance, and accountable service delivery.
Proven Leadership
Led the "Valuing Mental Health" community consultation and research project—a comprehensive initiative focused on improving mental health and addiction services across multiple First Nations communities in Alberta. This work informed practical strategies for system strengthening and collaborative care.
Program Development
Designed and delivered trauma-informed youth programs in northern Alberta and NWT First Nations communities. Programs integrated cultural knowledge with evidence-based clinical approaches, addressing complex trauma, grief, addiction, and family wellness in ways that honoured community values and traditional healing practices.
System Design
Developed multi-disciplinary assessment protocols, collaborative care models, and integrated mental health frameworks. This work included designing centralized referral systems, coordinated case planning processes, and confidentiality protocols suited to small community contexts—building systems that connect fragmented services into cohesive care networks.
Community Partnership
Served in leadership and clinical roles within community-based organizations, including direct counselling, crisis response, and mental health training. Built long-term relationships with Health Directors, Chiefs and Councils, educators, and frontline workers—ensuring services were relationally grounded, accountable, and responsive to community direction.
For Community Leadership
Aurora Psychology Group understands the realities of rural and remote service delivery, NIHB reporting requirements, Jordan's Principle processes, and the importance of confidentiality in small communities where privacy is essential and trust is everything.
We recognize that leadership carries significant responsibility — balancing immediate mental health needs with long-term community wellness, financial accountability, and reporting obligations. Our team works directly with Health Directors, Chiefs and Councils, and Tribal Councils to design services that are practical, sustainable, and culturally aligned with each community's priorities and values.
We provide clear documentation, transparent invoicing, and timely reporting to support NIHB and Jordan's Principle requirements, while minimizing administrative burden on local teams. Our clinicians understand the importance of working collaboratively with existing community supports, including schools, health centres, Elders, and cultural knowledge keepers.
Services can include in-community counselling, crisis response, assessments, case consultation, capacity-building workshops, and strategic planning related to mental health and addictions. We aim to build local capacity wherever possible, strengthening systems rather than creating dependency.
Above all, our approach is relational. We listen first, adapt to community direction, and ensure that services are delivered with professionalism, discretion, and respect.
For Contractors
We recruit experienced, credentialed clinicians who are committed to culturally grounded, community-embedded practice. Our team includes registered and certified professionals who bring strong clinical skills, professionalism, and a deep respect for First Nations cultures, leadership, and ways of knowing. We prioritize practitioners who are relational, adaptable, and able to provide high-quality care while working in partnership with communities.
Our Commitment
We are committed to long-term partnerships, confidentiality in small communities, strong clinical standards, and respectful collaboration with Elders, leadership, and local service providers. Our goal is simple: to walk alongside Nations in strengthening wellness systems that reflect culture, restore balance, and support future generations.
